Meadville and the surrounding area has small town charm with easy accessibility to major cities such as Pittsburgh, Erie, and Cleveland.  Crawford County is the site to international companies such as Channellock and Dad's Pet Care Products, as well as, being the hub of the tool and die industry and many small, family owned businesses.  Meadville hosts many annual events including The Thurston Classic hot air balloon race and the Crawford County Fair.  Other events held throughout the area include Winter Fun Days, fishing tournaments, Jazz and Blues festivals, the Oil Festival, Antique Auto Show, and the Waterfowl Expo. 

Crawford County has activities for everyone encompassing all the seasons.  Conneaut Lake, Pymatuning Lake, Canadohta Lake and others offer boating, swimming, fishing and other recreational opportunities.  There are numerous hiking and biking trails to enjoy during the warm weather that then offer cross country skiing in the winter.  The Meadville Recreation Complex provides year round swimming with both indoor and outdoor pools and has a seasonal indoor ice rink that hosts hockey clubs, figure skating, and public ice sessions.  It is also the home of the Meadville Bulldogs Hockey team.  Pymatuning State Park is a great way to get out in nature and do some wildlife watching and is home to the Pymatuning Deer Park which has over 250 animals in a natural setting.  For the golfer, the area offers public and private golf courses to challenge every level of player.  From spring to fall and summer to winter, the area has something to offer everyone.

Meadville is also the site of Allegheny College, a prestigious liberal arts institution.  In addition to offering a high-quality liberal arts education, it is the site of many conferences, workshops, camps and cultural events.  Allegheny College is the second oldest college located west of the allegheny mountains founded in 1815.  It ranks in the top 7% of schools whose graduates go on to earn PhD's in all fields.  Allegheny's picturesque location is ideal for outdoor recreation, with eight freshwater lakes, ski areas and recreational opportunities all within easy reach.
